169 programmes and activities to be organised within the National Tourism Year of Điện Biên

ĐBP - The National Tourism Year of Điện Biên 2024, themed "Glory of Điện Biên Phủ - Infinite Experience," will feature numerous diverse and captivating activities and events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).

On the afternoon of February 21, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in collaboration with the People's Committee of Điện Biên Province provided information about the National Tourism Year of Điện Biên 2024.

Themed "Glory of Điện Biên Phủ - Infinite Experience," the National Tourism Year of Điện Biên 2024 commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024). It is expected to invigorate the economy and society of Điện Biên Province and contribute to the development of tourism in Việt Nam.

The National Tourism Year of Điện Biên 2024 will feature 169 programmes and events, including 13 national programmes and events organised by the MCST, ministries, departments, and central agencies. Điện Biên Province will host 28 programmes, events, and activities, while 33 provinces and centrally-run cities will organise 128 responsive events and activities.

The highlights of the National Tourism Year of Điện Biên 2024 include the opening ceremony, which is intertwined with the organisation of the 2024 Ban Flower Festival under the theme "Journey to the land of Ban flowers." This event will take place on March 16th at the 7-5 Square in Điện Biên Phủ City. Additionally, there will be special artistic performances and a spectacular fireworks display on the evening of May 6th at the 7-5 Square.

The commemoration ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory will be held on the morning of May 7th at the provincial stadium in Điện Biên. Furthermore, the Northwest - Điện Biên Tourism Fair and the National Cuisine Festival 2024 will be organized in August 2024 at the 7-5 Square. The Northwest - Điện Biên Trade Fair 2024 will be held in the second quarter of 2024.

Lastly, the closing ceremony and summary of the National Tourism Year will take place in December 2024.

Trịnh Thị Thủy, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, assessed the tourism potential of Điện Biên Province, stating that Điện Biên is known as a land steeped in history associated with the victory of Điện Biên Phủ. Historical sites such as A1 Hill, Docaterry Bunker, Điện Biên Phủ Victory Monument, Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum, the Command Headquarters of the Mường Phng Campaign, and the shrines of heroic martyrs at the Điện Biên Phủ Battle Field have been invested in and embellished to meet the needs of domestic and international tourists who wish to explore and understand the region's history.

In addition to its strength in historical tourism, Điện Biên also boasts significant potential for resort tourism and health care.

During the press conference, Vice Chairman of the Điện Biên Provincial People's Committee Vừ A Bằng stated that the province's tourism products mainly focus on historical and spiritual elements. In the future, Điện Biên Province will develop new tourism products, including exploring tourism routes with Northeastern Laos. It is projected that in 2024, Điện Biên Province will attract 1.3 million visitors, with total revenue estimated at 2.2 trillion Vietnamese đồng.
